It’s Time For A Change

The framers of the Constitution did not have the “legal status” of those living in the United States in mind at the time the document was written. The document was later ratified to protect the people that lived within the borders of this country. The Supreme Court maintained the notion that "once an alien lawfully enters and resides in this country he becomes invested with the rights guaranteed by the Constitution. The key words in that phrase being “lawfully enters.”

Illegal immigrants living and perhaps working in the United States have some rights under the U.S. Constitution, despite their unlawful immigration status. The right to due process. The right to have the laws protect you in the same way they do everyone else. The right to a jury trial and to defend yourself if arrested (including arrests by immigration authorities) or sued. Some states grant illegal immigrants various rights as well, such as to apply for a drivers' license. California is among those states.

All these rights given to someone who has entered this country illegally makes no sense to me. If you entered this country illegally the only right you should have is a bus ticket out. If you enter this country illegally you are breaking the law and if we as a nation look the the other way than the next time I get a speeding ticket I would expect the judge to look the other way. What’s good for one lawbreaker should be good for another. We are a nation of laws and if you break the law you face the consequences, no matter what they are.

My grandparents on both sides came here from Europe in the early 1900s as immigrants and applied for citizenship. They were sponsored for 2 years, and a judge found them to be good, hard-working people with something to contribute to this country and they became citizens. That is how it needs to be done.

Do to the recent events that have been taking place in this country, we need to support Tom Homan and the good men and woman of U.S. Immigration and Customs (ICE) and the job they are doing in keeping U.S. neighborhoods safe from criminal and noncriminal illegal aliens.

The immagration laws need to change in this country and Congress needs to do it and if they don’t we need to vote them out. (They also need to work more than two days a week).

It’s time for a change.
