Who's Shaking the Jar

Updated: Dec 9, 2022

After a week of waiting for the final midterm election results, some of which are still not in, I believe the country is still headed in the wrong direction. I say that from a conservative point of view. I’m looking for a time when I was growing up on Long Island in the 1960s and 1970s and life in America wasn’t so complicated. People left their front doors unlocked at night, and church on Sunday had a full house. Now we have doorbell cameras with bars on the front windows, and church attendance is maybe 40%. There's something to be said for that. But I guess it’s just wishful thinking that I’ll ever see those days again.

In the Bible, Matthew 12:25 says, "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand." We are pretty much a divided country today. If you look at the election, most of the races were very close. only a few points either way. The Senate is split down the middle. The house will go back to Republican control by a very slim margin, and people are talking about a civil war. Half the country wants to preserve what we have, and the other half is progressive and wants to do away with the constitution, a constitution that has served us well and has made us stand out as the greatest nation in the history of the world. I don't see Russia and China having a border problem.

But there's a shakeup happening in this country right now, and somebody or something is behind it. I believe it was Mark Twain that said "If you take 100 black ants and 100 fire ants and put them in a glass jar, nothing will happen, but if you take the jar and shake it violently and leave it on the table, the ants will start killing themselves. Red believes that black is the enemy, while black believes that red is the enemy, when the real enemy is the person who shook the jar". Before we start fighting each other, we have to ask ourselves, "Who’s shaking the jar?"
